SPEC’s work with A123 included:

• Evaluating their current lab scale process
• Designing their pilot plant including equipment specifications, piping design, etc.
• Improving their process by reducing the variance of coating thickness on web by designing an advanced coating fluid flow control system

SPEC also provided its energy storage expertise to Saint Gobain on a solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) project. In the pipeline, SPEC plans to work with another Department of Energy grant recipient on producing film capacitors for electric cars. SPEC has worked with these clients in a variety of process design efforts.
