Featured Problem Solver: Rob Mitchell

Client: DSM NeoSol, Inc.
Current Situation:
When Soluol approached SPEC, they needed to address several problems with their process involving a polyester reactor. Specifically, a sample port that enabled small sampling from a hot reactor was becoming both hazardous to the operator and less accurate with its samples.
The client was unsure of the best technology to address these problems. We were able to find a solution, thanks to our experience across many industries, by finding different technology to improve their process.
Essentially we applied technology from the bio-tech industry to the fine chemical industry that simply solved both problems. By changing from a large valve off the bottom of a 2” pipe to a ½” port with a zero static valve (eliminating contamination or any hold up in the pipe), SPEC was able to make the process both safe for the operator and more accurate for sampling.
SPEC’s success in this instance was largely due to our ability to draw knowledge and experience from a variety of industries which allows us to suggest unique solutions, often transcending industry barriers.
